DOES ‘I’M SORRY’ EVER GET TOO MUCH?
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me… heard that
before? I think it is a good philosophy. No one wants to be taken for
granted and in this world of cutthroat competition you don’t want
anyone to walk all over you. You let people take advantage of you
once, they will do it over and over again. You show one sign of
weakness and the cold, harsh, vicious world will fester on it. Continue after the slice..
Ever seen sharks drawn to the scent of one drop of blood? They all
rush in, commando-style and tear apart that poor prey even if it is
one of their own. Red soon clouds your vision and entrails and bits of
flesh pollute the waters and before you know it there is no trace of
that prey anymore… Eeesh! Cannibalistic, right?
Humans can be like that too. Empathy or even reason goes out the
window if they smell that ‘drop of blood’. So you do your best not to
give anyone the chance to do that to you and before you know it, you
have built tower-like walls and you can never bear it when a person
has to say ‘I’m sorry’ more than once for doing the same thing but
what about that little something that differentiates us from animals?
Come on people, we live in a civilized world, not the jungle so let’s
take it down a notch. Drop the attitude where you go round with your
magnifying glass like a detective searching for ways anyone may have
taken you for granted. Some people are really sincere when they
apologize so don’t ever get tired of accepting the numerous ‘I’m
sorrys’. It is up to you though to discern if the apology is sincere
but you can’t do that if you don’t drop the magnifying glass. Take a
deep breath, relax, trust a little more and be human.
