The Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has manufactured an environment friendly car plans to compete at the 2015 Shell Eco Marathon Competition scheduled to hold in the Netherlands in May to compete in the European leg of this year’s Shell Eco-marathon the motoring competition rewards those who travel the longest distance using the least amount of fuel.
Unveiling the car, the Head of Department and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mohammed Dauda, told journalists that it was made from materials sourced from the local community saying “All materials used for this car were sourced locally,”
Dr. Dauda however noted that some components were recycled, rather than self-fabricated at the department.
“Though, there are things that we did not fabricate ourselves, you will be surprised that some of the components like the electrical, we just looked at an old computer system and then adopted some of the components that were useful to us,” he said.

He said the Department was motivated to manufacture the car,
following an invitation from the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited.
To participate in a competition with other cars including cars designed and built by at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG)
(UNILAG’s AutonovIII) who participated in the 2014 edition of the competition held in Holland.
